When it really matters... AlixPartners delivers

    Vice President (Former Employee)

Pros1. Very interesting and important project work for companies everyone has heard of
    2. An incredibly high level of engagement with the work, you, as a consultant are tasked to do -- the ability to lead and prove yourself at a very meritocratic firm
    3. Vast amounts of autonomy (could be a con for some)
    4. Incredible colleagues and a true collegial atmosphere -- many of them are THE experts in their fields
    5. Above market pay

Cons1. AlixPartners-y-ness: Culturally, either you will fit here or you won't -- there is little middle ground
    2. The interview process is difficult, especially with the psychometric tests that are administered (this isn't necessarily a purely negative thing but does make recruitment hard)
    3. Firm growth has accelerated over the past year with AlixPartners' acquisition by CVC... too much too soon may be bad for the culture
    4. Poor knowledge management... although it is getting better

Advice to Senior ManagementYou're doing most things right -- make sure to groom the next wave of leadership from within as it will be superior to bringing in MD's from the outside in the long run given AlixPartners' unique culture

Company has not managed it's growing headcount well

    Vice President (Current Employee)

ProsThe company pays very well and there are a number of nice perks. The kitchens are stocked with soda and snacks. Employees technical needs are well taken care of and internal tech support is the best I've experienced.

ConsConsultants have a very high opinion of themselves, behave rudely, and don't work well together as a team. There is a lot of unethical behavior occurring. Going out for expensive dinners with several bottles of wine and cocktails and charging it all to the customer seems to be the norm.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe company needs to grow up.

    Fantastic place to learn

Associate (Performance Improvement) (Current Employee) Chicago, IL (US)

    Pros- High exposure to C-suite
    - Very talented, senior level colleagues

    Cons- Travel can get old
    - Lack of transparency in bonus structure (bonuses are very good though)

Alixpartners is not a bad place to work if you're part of the majority. If you're a minority, expect a challenge.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsPros...pay for overtime and better than average bonuses. Alixpartners does a decent job for a firm its size.

    Cons3 major challenges:
    1. Senior leadership model embraces a stoggy old school mentality. Leadership appears extremely inflexible when it comes to change. This is a direct contradiction to the firm's most rudimentary principle.
    2. The lack of diversity, especially in leadership. Top two levels of Leadership is comprised mostly of white men.
    3. Alter the assessment & testing phase to incorporate the employee of 2104. Most people don't have 6-8 weeks to interview for a position.

Advice to Senior ManagementBroaden your employee and leadership base and the clients will soon follow.

Mixed Bag--Make sure you know what you are getting into

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsHighly valuable experience and skill set. Projects cuts right to the heart of the matter and one really learns how to 80-20 and make decision under uncertainty. Furthermore the continuing flat economic growth in US and AlisPartner's focus as tactical cost reduction specialist bode for good exit strategies.

ConsCulture is very sharp elbowed. This is not a place for the thin-skinned. It is a sink-or-swim environment with minimal support or training. Make sure you have your consulting down solid before joining AlixPartners.

    Minorities Be Aware

Associate (Former Employee) Dallas, TX (US)

ProsGood compensation and benefits, but money is only one part of the equation. You can move up if you play the game right and real skills and abilities are not encouraged.

ConsFavoritism; a work culture that alienates minorities not from similar backgrounds; travelling schedule is not predictable and work life balance does not exist.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook after the needs of all members of your team, regardless of the color of their skin or their background culture.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
