I have been working at AmerisourceBergen full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Salary and benefits are comparable with other companies

    Cons

Senior management is poorly run; change in staff continuous; lacking consistency for their clients. Senior manager are given too many programs to manage causing chaos and confusion

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I advise to not overload and overwhelm your senior managers; you may then be able to retain them and have better outcome for your clients
Company is unable to guarantee a position once your position assignment or program has ended

Former Contractor - Contractor in Chesterbrook, PA (US)

I worked at AmerisourceBergen as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Staff understands work-life balance, really decent human beings.
Business has been growing substantially within the past year.

    Cons

IBM Consultants take up a whole floor of one building and seem to add almost nothing to any discussion (nothing useful).
Growing pains from incorporating Walgreens in early 2014 (grew business by 40%); systems are not yet fully integrated.
Too much finger pointing on system vulnerabilities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pick a strategy, stick with it.
Don't fall for the finger pointing games - get to the bottom of vulnerabilities and remediate.

Current Employee - Director Level in Frisco, TX (US)

I have been working at AmerisourceBergen full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Memories of the good old days. It was once fun to work here and to come in to work each day.

    Cons

It was once fun to come to work. The environment was of teamwork and collaboration. Since the new president was installed you come in just to impress him. You have to laugh at his jokes and pretend that the endless stories of his business ventures abroad are interesting. Worse is that he has stripped us of all that was worth while. Just horrible leadership. He doesn't inspire anyone. People just put up with the horrible culture he has created long enough to find a way out. Compensation is horrible because he has turned to making cuts so that his numbers look good. He stifles innovation at every turn. Which is rather childish and insecure so people rarely feel worthy of contributing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We desperately need mature level headed leadership in this company. We need professionals with tangible industry experience leading the Specialty Group.

I worked at AmerisourceBergen full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great work life balance, get to go home every day at 4 and no expectation to work from home.

    Cons

Very poorly run, no room to grow and any desire to grow your career is a waste of time. Says a lot about a department when 7 people leave in a matter in a matter of 3 months. Leaders at corporate need to open their eyes to what is going on at the NRC.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have an HR presence and open your eyes to what is going on at the NRC, when 7 people leave in a department of 15 or so in a matter of months, something is wrong and should be looked at.

    Pros

The coworkers, family environment among the coworkers only. Management doesnt care. cant think of anything else. Besides that two

    Cons

Management, so unorganized, long, long, long hours. Sometime work until 5:30, 6 am come in at 3pm. Spring last minute changes on you. Expect you to work regardless of other obligations. Seen 5 people quit in one day. Some people work 12 hrs no lunch or break, while Operations Supervisors and Managers do nothing. Poor place fo work.

    Stay Away From the NRC!

Former Employee - Buyer in Eden Prairie, MN (US)
Former Employee - Buyer in Eden Prairie, MN (US)

    I worked at AmerisourceBergen

    Pros

Good work life balance, guaranteed to be done at 4pm everyday and not have to take your work home with you. Also, 20 days off in first year. If you are a yes man, this is the place for you!

    Cons

There are absolutely no career advancement opportunities unless it is a in role promotion i.e buyer 1, 2 and if you are promoted, it is kept on the low down. The culture and technology is embarrassing to the point that EVERY report is still printed and you will have to sacrifice your first born to have anything emailed or done via the internet. If you want to further your career or learn anything besides being told what to do, please look elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is no HR, no view to the company outside of the NRC except what your director decides to tell you. Which in most cases, is nothing. No exit interviews and no chance of raising any concerns past the VP.
