I love the people I work with and our clients are the best.

Certified Senior Teller (Current Employee)
Roanoke Rapids, NC (US)

I have been working at BB&T part-time for more than 3 years

ProsTraining and updating are awesome. The banking rules and regulations change frequently, BB&T keeps its employees apprised and provides the training necessary.

ConsThey like to keep part-time tellers exclusively. Only two tellers at each branch are full time in my area.

Mortgage Loan Processor III

Mortgage Loan Processor III (Current Employee)
Richmond, VA (US)

I have been working at BB&T full-time for less than a year

ProsThe only plus is the 80 hours of sick leave you get a year. This can be used for your children, spouse, or yourself.

ConsBenefits are not good. Healthcare for a family of 5, I pay $495.00 per paycheck. Copays are $35.00, I am not sure why there are so many reviews saying the benefits are great. I left Bank of America to come here and my benefits were much better. I had 4 weeks vacation. Here I got 2 weeks. Healthcare was $305.00 per paycheck. Technology is outdated and management does not provide training and is not evolved at all. Good ole boys network. Branches might be different but corporate BB&T is AWFUL.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide more training and leadership. Don't treat satellite offices like step children. If you are not in Wilson or TX then you don't exist.

Says that they value work/ family balance, however all is not as it seems. Management will misrepresent job demands.

Commercial Appraiser (Current Employee)

I have been working at BB&T full-time for less than a year

Pros4 days per year vacation. You get all the post it notepads that you want. They even give you a computer and a stapler.

ConsHiring manager says that they value work/ family life balance, and that this is a 40 hour per week job. After hire, it was demanded that I work 70 hours per week if I value my job. I am a professional in my field with over 20 yrs experience at other banks, so I am familiar with job demands at competing institutions.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you really value work/ family balance, then live by those values. If you dont value work/ family balance, dont say that you do during hiring interviews. Maybe be up front and say that your really dont care and if you want to work for BB&T, be prepared to work 80 hours per week, including weekends.

Same as any other big bank

Relationship Banker II (Former Employee)
Dallas, TX (US)

I worked at BB&T full-time for less than a year

ProsCulture outside of sales is great. Vision of executives is outstanding. Unfortunately it is not being executed well at the branch level.

ConsBranch and regional managers are nothing but product pushers. Un-insightful, un-imaginative, and care about sales goals more than their own people or customers. They claim to be different than similar banks, and they are...in the worst way. Do not work for BB&T if you really want to help people with their finances. That goes for any retail bank though.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind ways to motivate and train employees in more ways than just how to robotically regurgitate the account opening process.

Great Culture and overall experience.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at BB&T

ProsGood management experience and leadership in managers. A great place to learn about banking and opportunities to expand into non-traditional banking roles.

ConsTechnology is lacking. Their systems are antiquated and need to be overhauled completely. Very conservative bank and credit standards (not a con, so much as how the bank operates).

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease upgrade the bank systems. Many of our computers are so slow and the servers are awful. Consider a cloud based solution instead of using the current Wilson Servers. Long-term it'll be a tremendous cost savings to the bank to outsource the data storage side.
