Great company, GREAT training

Associate Manager, Men's Merchandising (Former Employee)
Corte Madera, CA (US)

I worked at Banana Republic full-time for more than 3 years

ProsFantastic core values drive the company and as a manager you'll get top industry training on coaching, and developmental feedback. At it's core the company tries to listed to field employees and help stores achieve success. Most people in the company are educated and collaborative.

ConsThe Field Management is severely under-compensated. There is a huge loss of talent stemming from people leaving to get better paying jobs, and that turn costs the company more in hiring, training and tribal knowledge loss.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest more in the field and don't be afraid to pay for talent. You're paying more by losing them.

Positive

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Banana Republic

ProsTraining is thorough, they show appreciation for employees that work hard - in the from of prizes, recognition during the service forum, and a bonus if monthly goals are met, they also listen to your needs as an employee

ConsIn my store it is difficult to move up, the team is kept very small and they don't take on lead positions to support the supervisor and manager positions unless one leaves - whereas some stores have multiple leads and supervisors positions for the same work centre

Good company

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Banana Republic

ProsDiscount is great and MOST of the people are awesome to work with. As long as you do what's expected and follow the company's service model then you'll be fine

ConsManagement is unclear with what is needed to move forward with the company. Mixed signals.

Advice to Senior ManagementCalm down a little bit. Stressing out over every detail doesn't get the store team anywhere.
