I worked at Bank of America full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Chance to learn a lot within the banking industry

    Cons

Not a fun working environment. Staff are hard to work with. Lots of bureaucracy, internal politics which holds you back from getting anything done internally, as everything is governed by the U.S. No real training given, you are left to fend for yourself and 'get on with it'. A very disorganised company with no structure or career path.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I left after 9 months, had no training, was left to 'fend for myself'. No career path or prospects visible. Awful working environment. Needs to be a better atmosphere internally, more career prospects and more staff events, team building events etc.

    Pros

In general, there are high calibre professionals working in all teams, and the work produces tends to be of high quality.

    Cons

Politics mainly. The organization is very top-heavy, with many subdivisions. Teams are expected to deliver but without controlling all the resources on a project as some belong to other teams.

I worked at Bank of America full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Due to the widespread problems, you won't be bored there.

    Cons

Budgets slashed. Projects canned. Management treat running the company as though it was simply a game to be played. Although this is supposedly a global company, there is discrimination against people in India as the bands are lower for doing the same job. Everything's really run out of Charlotte, so if you're in the rest of the world forget about getting above a band 3. The bank failed to invest in it's infrastructure and systems during the good times. It is probably too late to turn things around now. I'd recommend only if you like fiddling whilst Rome burns.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Just leave

    Pros

Its been a really great start for my career, and a good name to begin with on my CV.

    Cons

You don't get recognised for your work, and theres so much red tape and reporting in a day, it gets so tedious.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less of them, there are so many unecessary managers there, adding to the politics and the bureaucracy at work.

    Pros

Good name to put on your CV

    Cons

Middle/Back Office Salaries are low. They block you from applying for London positions. They now hire A-Level school leavers. Most people start looking to leave after a year, as there are no salary increases across the floor.
