ProsI didn't do a really good job as an undergraduate student and couldn't find anything else but this unpaid internship...although it didn't feel great at the start, Bell gave me the chance to put my head down, work hard and get recognition on the way to further education. I am now on the verge of graduate level certification and have multiple offers over which to mull, due in no small part to my time there.

ConsObviously the unpaid aspect of the internship was not great and the fact that they have a 70/30 work split with 30% of my work outside of my area is arguably bad (although has benefits vis-a-vis creating transferable skills).

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you could find a way to pay the interns, even a little bit, that would be great. Other than that, keep on providing great developmental opportunities as that is one of the main strengths of the program.

ProsPrestige. Bell being one of the biggest telecom companies made you feel proud to work there. The people (co-workers) also made the time there enjoyable. Benefits were good. The free cell phone service some what made up for the not so great pay.

ConsTransparency. Transparency was terrible when it came to what the company had in mind for staff. They made every effort to educate on new products and services but nothing in the way of where we all fit in the overall direction the company was heading. Big disconnect between senior management and front line staff. Middle management didn't have the courage to push back when a new policy, idea, stat, product or service would not be supported well on the floor. Many, many more cons to much to state.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice to senior leadership would be to know the business from a front line perspective. Close the gap between yourselves and the rest of the organization. Maybe then you would see that more creative ways are needed to meet the shareholders needs & keep your operations staff happy. Without them, the company wouldn't turn a buck.

ProsInternship is a valuable learning tool with real world experience in a corporate environment. There is access to top of the line materials and equipment. There are excellent workshops related to technology, branding, software, and anything that you would experience in an office environment.

ConsLimited compensation with no regard for personal expenses. Falling under federal law they are not required to pay interns.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind a way to partially compensate interns.

ProsThe company is aggressively looking to regain lost market space and competing with the new players. So you'd be in the middle of a very fast paced, high stress environment. In the trenches. Positive for somebody looking to learn the business.

ConsIt's all about meeting targets. Employees are just pawns. No respect or care for the individuals. Internal politics and back-stabbing is the norm. Executives are more concerned with their fat bonuses than anything else. Don't expect to find a positive working environment.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake some people management courses.

ProsThe company will provide opportunities for vertical and horizontal movement whenever an employee has successfully demonstrated his or her capabilities in relation to career objectives.

ConsCross departmental communication and collaboration is poor leading to many mismanaged projects, the inability to meet critical timelines and constant re-work.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs to be made aware of the fact that the company has too many departments within the business unit and should streamline operations by identifying areas of redundancy, which are present.
