    Pros

Fantastic people who are on the whole truly committed to what they are doing. There is real passion and desire to do the very best on most projects. Great workplace 'perks' such as free barista-style coffees and hot drinks, subsidised cantine and some great social events organised on site, such as free lunches once a month, fancy dress days and discounted cinema/theatre tickets.

    Cons

The company is currently going through a period of huge growth, so is moving from a small biotech to a medium/large biotech and is experiencing all the usual teething problems associated with this- lots of new people and products but without the infrastructure or processes to properly support the growth mean that things can feel a bit chaotic and disorganised. Mentalities and behaviours are slowly changing however, and many of the new people are making great changes and helping to future-proof the organisation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to/use the people you have spent such a long time hiring to get the very best out of them- some people have great ideas but they never come to fruition because they don't get the opportunity to work them through fully.

    Pros

Really cares about the employees. Has really good benefits, promotes work/life balance, recognizes good performers

    Cons

Sometimes politics exist between sites. Almost like there is a competition between this site and that site instead of seeing all of us as part of a whole

I worked at Biogen Idec as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

People are extremely dedicated to their work and most people are very willing to provide you with anything you may ask of them such as career support or development

    Cons

As an intern, it is sometimes difficult to get a grasp on such a large organization that is continuing to grow. A more comprehensive introduction to the company would be beneficial.

I have been working at Biogen Idec full-time

    Pros

The company is profitable, generally well run, with competent management at all levels. It has a clear corporate vision, and hires people that are excellent at their jobs. The company also has considerable focus on the patients who rely on it's products and expends a lot of effort in initiatives to promote their welfare outside of drug development. Vacation time is very generous, and other benefits are excellent.

    Cons

The company has adopted an open office space plan which means that there are no offices or cubicles - just large areas filled with desks and spindled with couches and "huddle" rooms. Everything about that is annoying and productivity sucking. HR talks a lot about focusing on career and personal development, but, in practice, there's rarely opportunities for that or advancement within the company. There are even job levels that can only be obtained by quitting and being hired back at a later date. There are MANY people that have worked at the company for a decade or more with lots of personal recognition, but no promotion. They pay well, but it's not a place to advance your career.
