I have been working at Bombardier Aerospace full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Good on the job training

    Cons

Advertised as a cross functional training "graduate program" but it is non-existent

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More emphasis should be on training to graduates as some have absolutely nothing to do

    Pros

People I work with are very good and supportive

    Cons

Montreal HQ and the drones that work there. They do not respect anyone who is does not work there and have little regard for you if you do not have Manager in your title. Very very little opportunity for career advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a serious look at this Company that you are DESTROYING...it is the people on the ground floor who are supporting your grandeous titles and your flamboyant lifestyles...you are taking salaries that you do not deserve and pushing out substandard products. You are a disgrace.

I worked at Bombardier Aerospace full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The salary for the responsibility given was more then adequate
The coaching provided was immaculate leaving more then enough room to grow
The separation benefit offered was generous and considerate for the period worked

    Cons

The only down side i can think off is the ending off the position I held
May be the fact that it happened quite quickly, and the policy in place with many large companies, that you have to leave at that moment seems to be robbing people of there dignity

I have been working at Bombardier Aerospace full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

At Bombardier you can really have work-life balance. Pay is good. You can learn a lot within the company as it has some good methodology. Good working and team environment. Possibilities of lateral move to experience different roles.

    Cons

Poor management - some directors, senior directors and managers have no idea about what they are doing. Too many politics. There is absolutely no accountability and some coworkers can be really lazy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too much politics. Very disorganized sometimes. Need more structure and faster decisions. No accountability. Too arrogant because of their titles.

I worked at Bombardier Aerospace full-time

    Pros

Can be very comfy - decent salaries, better than average benefits (a defined-benefit pension!), lower pressure for performance the farther from the flightline you work. If anything, the Work-Life balance can tilt toward Life on the lower-expectations end of the performance dimension.

    Cons

Lower pressure for performance leads to shallow commitment making and breaking, particularly regarding planning & scheduling, and opens plenty of space for politics and other parasitic silliness. Clubby management ranks filled with self-preserving survivors of frequent and deep downsizing. Real risk of getting hired and laid off within a two-year period.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice for the Board: ease out the Prince and find someone with a long term view who can turn things around in a hands-on way.

    Pros

One of the most productive industrial companies in Canada. Unique product line and truly international.

    Cons

Repressive workplace culture that inhibits employee and company development. The company shirks responsibility as if it were truly public, but management rarely takes responsibility for problems since it is quasi private. They were using Lotus Notes enterprise wide until 2014!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should realize that the industry has evolved faster than they have; the faster they embrace the next generation of thought leaders, the faster they'll catch up to industry standards.

I worked at Bombardier Aerospace as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Salary was quite good, despite the hassles with working at a company that makes one kneejerk reaction after another.

    Cons

Where to start. They are way too top heavy starting with the Montreal managers who act more dictators instead of managers who put you in a position to succeed. The company is so fragmented that one area will actively sabotage another in order to get a bigger piece of the ever shrinking pie. They are constantly going through layoff cycles and will let go of long-time employees on a whim. Nobody has any job security.

    Pros

Good work-life balance. Good local management team in Des Plaines.

    Cons

Looking for any kind of career growth here? Forget it. Very small outpost of the company in Des Plaines. Also, it is an aviation/aerospace company so expect wild fluctuations in the overall business. And, yes, they do RIFs (we just went through at 15% reduction).
