Former Employee – worked at Bridgepoint Education full-time for less than a year

ProsDecent starting salary and benefits package
Enjoyed my coworkers

ConsEverything else
The pay and benefits have to be good because nearly everyone hates working there.
Management was hilariously inept. I had 3 managers in 8 months and didn't learn a thing from any of them. Directors are only about the bottom line and will overlook employees breaking federal laws as long as their enrolling "students".
Admissions Counselor is the most misleading title ever. They use sales tactics and teach you how to guilt people into enrolling into a school that is going to fail them.
I was repeatedly asked if I was interested in moving up to management, then inexplicably laid off in their last "10% cut" without any concrete reason.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet out before the DoE shuts down the school and prosecutes for breaking federal regulations.

Former Employee – worked at Bridgepoint Education full-time for more than a year

ProsThe job paid well, offered great training, and benefits

ConsHighly stressful environment. If you didn't enroll enough students you would be fired or receive pay cuts. They hired about 200 people ever couple of weeks and most of them couldn't make the cut. About 1/4 were fired for not being good enough. 1/4 were promoted to manager or transferred to another department. And about 1/2 left the position due to stress. Many employees were seeing counselors strictly for work related stress. Also get ready to work a lot!!!!!

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in your employees. Don't churn and burn

Current Employee – been working at Bridgepoint Education full-time for less than a year

ProsGreat team of people in the graduate division.

ConsThey operate a classic boiler room. Nothing but high pressure phone calls to prospective students (veiled as admissions counseling).

Advice to Senior ManagementCut out all the layers of management. It's overkill.

Current Employee – been working at Bridgepoint Education full-time for more than 3 years

ProsLaid back environment and good people. The benefits packages are decent, but not great (no paid FMLA for new parents).

ConsProfessional, educated, and salaried employees are treated the same as those with only high school degrees. I believe that there should be benefits for finishing school and having experience. Software developers don't get a lot of self-improvement benefits, unless you happen to be on the right team.

Current Employee – been working at Bridgepoint Education full-time for more than 3 years

ProsCompetitive Entry-level salaries, great health benefits, fun culture, experience in a fairly new but rapidly growing industry, opportunity for growth. BA preferred but there are plenty of opportunities for those without a degree as well.

ConsIt's a 9 to 5 cubicle job, as with any large corporation there are drawbacks. The admissions department can be a difficult and stressful job, but after 6 months you are eligible to transfer to other departments if you desire.

Former Employee – worked at Bridgepoint Education full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGood benefits, coworkers were mostly nice, great gyms

ConsIt is very political and people who don't know what they are doing get promoted and and unfit for management. Right now there is a lot of uncertainty, and people I know who work there fear that they will be let go at any time. In January they let go of 10% of the company and they say it will happen every year. Many veterans with the company are leaving.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart to value your employees and don't use scare tactics to get people to work. Also, look to reorganizing management, especially upper management, as they are often the least competent.

Current Employee – been working at Bridgepoint Education

ProsA lot of paid holidays. Average vacation and sick time. Decent health benefits.

ConsHorrible management. Several managers advanced to their position with little management experience. Very disorganized. The company grew too fast and internal structure and organization did not evolve with it. The company let go of 10% of the company all at once (a mass fire, not a layoff). I would not recommend working here.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide more direction and feedback for employees.

Former Employee – worked at Bridgepoint Education

ProsGreat benefits and pay and lots of perks, great people in middle management and regular positions.

ConsUnethical, scummy. This company may be paying for it in the future but it will be years before the government does anything about degree mills.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave more respect for people's personal lives!
