I have been working at CGI Federal full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – - Good salaries, considering where the office is located
- Great place to work directly out of college
- Flexible hours
- Telecommute options
- Great benefits
- Great work/life balance
- Interesting work
Cons – - No chance for career growth unless you are in the Fairfax office (5+ years for promotion, even for a regular top performer)
- Upper management tends to forget that the remote offices and team members exist
- Raises are low (3% - 4%), even for top performers
- Location of important company information changes regularly (at least 3 times in the time I have been with CGI Federal)
- Remote offices don't receive the same benefits as the Fairfax office: no (or boring, half planned) events, sub-par equipment and facilities, no cafeteria, no snacks or drinks, drip coffee as opposed to single serve machines with K-Cups, etc. Many small things but they combine to make remote members feel less appreciated.
- No chance to interact with clients
Advice to Senior Management – Equalize how you treat members who aren't in Fairfax. Remote members have as much (and often more) experience and we are well aware of how we are second class citizens at CGI. The remote offices are not staff augmentation, we are staff.

I have been working at CGI Federal full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – The people are good to work with, the company has the standard benefits, the management is about normal, it's part of a larger company and you can get a job elsewhere if you don't like it where you are at.
Cons – The company is financially driven and doesn't necessarily do things in the best interest of the employees, job titles don't follow the job.
Advice to Senior Management – Why is a software developer called a consultant? Titles do mean something to individuals. The upper management should realize that the finance department does not always make the best decisions.

I worked at CGI Federal full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Relatively stress-free projects, decent bonuses, good benefits
Cons – Lack of innovation
Lack of client interaction (most project teams based away from clients)
Not a true consulting firm (selling code to clients rather than solving problems with their processes/organization)
Poor raises
Lack of growth opportunities for mid-level professionals
Staff crammed into small cubes/spaces to fit more people
Upper management generally not willing to invest in staff seeking further education/certifications
Advice to Senior Management – Give staff clear paths for advancement... consider an "up or out" approach to avoid stagnation

I worked at CGI Federal full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – The reason you work at CGI Federal is because you want to advance your career in IT and appreciate your work life balance. CGI Federal is a great company to work for, large enough that they can be flexible without having you feel just like a number.
Cons – Opportunity to work outside of the Federal government contracts. Being in the Federal space it is difficult to get experience in the corporate side of the business (CGI and CGI Federal are separate companies).
Advice to Senior Management – Move people around more and give the younger members more responsibilities.

Pros – This job affords both vets and non-vets to support the US military in their efforts to keep America safe from dangers within and without.
Cons – This job like many within the federal oversight community did not lend itself to cutting edge technology, tools and services.

I have been working at CGI Federal
Pros – 401k and Stock Plan are not bad. Medical is decent. If you are comfortable with not knowing what you're doing and jumping into a new project there's plenty of room to grow.
Cons – Management does not have morale as one of the things they should be interested in. EG: PMs will repeatedly agree to client wishes/changes without understanding the change or impact on personnel and timelines; then expect the 'slack' to get picked up out of thin air. The only reason projects succeed is due to near heroic efforts of some to get the job done. Turnover is also high for the same reason. Many contracts (new bid and incumbent bid) were lost due to new HUGE overhead costs that are baked into proposals.
Advice to Senior Management – At some point you'll have to start listening to the folks that have been telling you for 3 years now since you bought into the defense business with the Stanley acquisition. We're getting underbid and overworked constantly. You're lucky you still have some the people you do.

I have been working at CGI Federal full-time for more than a year
Pros – Great work environment. The company has many projects to work on. For example, when a certain portion of a contract was lost, management assisted individuals in finding another project to work on within their area of interest. Also, the people that work for CGI are amazing. I have friends to this day that still work there.
Cons – Work schedule can be hectic depending on the project you work on, your role, and management. This is nearly a third party perspective of other projects. The project I worked on fostered a great environment for young professionals to develop.
Advice to Senior Management – Get to know the members of your project better. If you have a vested interest in them, then they will have an interest in helping you succeed.
