Nice people, but not an enjoyable experience

Enterprise Project Management Intern (Current Employee)
Livingston, NJ (US)

I have been working at CIT Group as an intern for less than a year

ProsHonestly, I cannot think of any. The people there are somewhat nice and the team I worked with had some very nice people - but that's about it. They're just nice.

ConsThe company culture is awful. There doesn't seem to be any ambition amongst any of the employees. It just seems a stopover for some people until they find something better.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Great internship experience.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Livingston, NJ (US)

I have been working at CIT Group as an intern for less than a year

ProsWell established, well structured company; as would be expected for a company that's been around as long as they have.

Great intern program, with really engaging projects.

Management was organized (at least in my department) and knew what they were doing

ConsThe market really had taken it's toll by the second summer I interned there. The atmosphere was a little tense (as would be expected since they were filing for Chapter 11). I'm sure things have stabilized for them now.

Probably not the most enjoyable atmosphere for younger talent, as most of the employees tended to be from an older generation.

Volatile environment while company tries to make comeback

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Livingston, NJ (US)

I have been working at CIT Group full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGood benefits; competitive salaries; pleasant office space

ConsToo many layoffs in attempt to cut expenses; employee moral at all time low.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease remember loyal employees; Volatility of last 5 years deserves recognition for employees that kept company afloat.

Hierarchies and fiefdoms; bureaucratic, stifling with no opportunity for innovation

VP+ (Current Employee)
Livingston, NJ (US)

I have been working at CIT Group full-time for less than a year

ProsPay... maybe. CIO is new, and there's hope.

ConsStifling, bureaucratic, extreme administrative overhead. People cannot seem to execute on new. Stuck in hierarchy and fiefdoms. The market they're in is rife with opportunity but the "guard" stops any innovation in it's path. Antiquated infrastructure with zero tools for collaboration.

Advice to Senior ManagementClean house.

New management does not care about loyal long-time employees

Vice President of Information Technology (Former Employee)
Livingston, NJ (US)

I worked at CIT Group full-time for more than 8 years

ProsSalary, benefits, and vacation were good

ConsTop management is systematically purging all of the loyal employees who kept the company going through bankruptcy, taking on multiple roles and stepping up to get the job done. This will eventually haunt them when the economy picks up and the brain drain is controlled by the employees not management.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe faithful to those that run the business day-to-day and treat them with some respect.
