I worked at Cargill full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Opportunities to advance. Tuition reimbursement.

    Cons

Poor management, no vision. Too big.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cargill does not value it's employees. They hire form the neck down. Very poor managers. I was there for 35+ years and could count the "good" managers on three fingers. They do not value loyalty. Very disappointed.

I have been working at Cargill full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Cargill has nice benefits and it pays more than a lot of places. The people where I worked made the job much better and more fun.

    Cons

The rotating or swing shifts are not always fun because you never really get used to it, you just find ways to deal with it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Judge the employees based on their over all performance and not just how well they did in the actubal interview.

I have been working at Cargill full-time

    Pros

The People are great, the safety environment is awesome and they truly care! They have great sales training even if it is a bit lame.

    Cons

Work-life balance, commissions aren't what they used to be, Don't appreciate all the time and effort from the sales staff. Complicated commission structure

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of the people within the organization that you want to stick around, Set realistic goals for your budgeting so you don't over shoot and hurt your sales people.

Former Employee - Marketing Manager in Minneapolis, MN (US)

I worked at Cargill full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

A lot of different businesses under one company means you have a lot to choose from
    Lengthy tenure of employees
    Promote within
Employee purchase of salt is sometimes offered

    Cons

Businesses do not communicate or work together so it is very difficult to move to another business
A lot of back-stabbing, mostly directed to newer employees. Once you have a 3-5 years it starts to slow, but you still need to play the game for a few more years until your ideas or new ways of doing things are accepted.
Multiple levels of leadership means unless you have it in with a VP or GM, you need to make sure your work is well known
Promoting within has led to inbreeding of ideas and ways to do things
Very low pay relative to other companies nationally

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut layers to your leadership. Too many leaders leave them fighting for resources and a lot of politics.

    Pros

Big large international company, diversified and has been around for a long time. Known to the commodities market for many years.

    Cons

Almost brand new senior leadership. Too much changes and profitability is declining. Worklife balance is not good as there are too many conference calls

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think strategy not just focus on shared services outsourcing

    Pros

I have been working at Cargill full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The culture here is absolutely the #1 strength of Cargill. People are always willing to help and if you show your value and skills people notice and help you move your career. The global presence of the company is exposed to every level of employee which is a great experience and helps grow your skillset. They are also open to travel and culture exchange - had several international trips in my first 5 years with the company and visited over 20 operational facilities across the country.

    Cons

Global company comes with process that can seriously discourage creative ideas and more modern technology and applications.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Help bring new fresh ideas to the top of the pile and keep the knowledge in-house. Too much outsourcing when employees can see that specialization works for certain processes.

    Pros

Amazing company with great people and good leadership. Best place to experience the global cultures which make a brilliant work ambiance.

    Cons

Need to pick up in some areas renouncing the age-old processes which gives an impression of 'slow-moving elephant' to the newbies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider proper skill evaluation methods and people identification process should be revised. Good that the recent initiatives are geared more towards the competitive markets.
