    Pros

The fact you have a choice whether you want to work or not. This is good for university students/A-level students (such as myself) as some weeks they may have too much work on, whereas other weeks may be the opposite.

From my experience the managers I've worked with have been good and understanding.

    Cons

The food provided is not good. There are many strict rules on not being allowed to eat food that is going to waste. Everyday there are masses of food that could be eaten but thrown in the bin. Can sometimes get the feeling of being treated like a school child which is not what you want in a working environment.

    Advice to Management

There are many managers within compass group and the best managers are the ones who build a good relationship with the staff. The days can become tedious which causes the staffs performance to drop, but the more respect they have for the manager, the more keen they are to do a good job. Number one advice is to relate to the workers and build a relationship.

    Pros

Vast variety of business services types.

    Cons

Human resource, people support and management is terrible.

    Advice to Management

Support your workforce. Middle management often overlooked and undervalued.

    Pros

Company is very flexible with working times and days. Opportunity to work in some very large and interesting functions with good staff

    Cons

Shifts are not always available. Sometimes frustrating working with temp agency staff which are hired during the larger functions because their English is poor

  8. Salaries next to nothing, no pay rise offered even though role is changed to higher position.

    Pros

None. Zero. Cannot think of one.

    Cons

If you are masochistic and don't like money then it would be perfect workplace for you. People are expected to work for sheer satisfaction and when offered promotions no rise is offered.

    Advice to Management

Start paying salaries adequate to roles.

    Pros

Generally good hours of work IE between 7am and 7pm although there are night shifts too. Fairly decent rate of pay, SOME great Area support managers. Fantastic Online training programs.

    Cons

Unfortunately there is a great lack of support for new teams, with a very quick turn around on staff. Compass would be a great company to work for if and it is a big if, they actually looked after their employees. in my experience out of the three area managers i met, only one actually cared about problems we faced. Total contract hours are very low BUT they expect you to work over time at the drop of a hat. small teams that work hard receive no gratification even if they work themselves to illness. Lack of actual hands on training.

    Advice to Management

Look after those who work for you in your teams, maybe then the staff tern around would lessen and you would have staff that will be happy to work hard enough to reach the goals you set. The people you employ need looking after in order to have a stable business, in the short time i was employed by compass i saw a team of 12 rapidly reduce to 6 with no manager for months on end, the team members who left were not replaced those that were sacked replaced only after the team left refused to carry on working double shifts everyday. When starting a new team in a new build spend a little more time training and a little less time drinking coffee in the corner, dumping a team in a kitchen and saying get on with it is not leadership.

    Pros

staff food was free. but it was mostly fried food.

    Cons

managers took advantage of their positions, the team leaders that kept their mouth shut and just did as they were told prospered. any sort of discussion or criticism was not acceptable. a number of team leader has sex at the o2 and management would not investigate.
Staff where given fake hope that they had a chance of a promotion. Managers would just promote their friends. Good work ethics did not lead to promotions.

    Advice to Management

reward people that work hard. look after the loyal members of staff and take time to see how just suck up.

    Pros

There are some great managers and staff who can make shifts enjoyable. If you work hard your efforts can be recognised.

    Cons

The hours are not nice, they remove your "break time" from your pay whether you take the break or not. Most of he time you won't take the full break as you are understaffed or other staff is incompetent. The pay is also for horrendous for the physical exertion you put out.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of inadequate staff and reward those who come in and work hard for minimal pay.
