Overall Costco is a great place to work.

Service Deli Assistant (Current Employee)
Burlington, WA (US)

I have been working at Costco Wholesale part-time for more than 3 years

ProsCostco seems to hire quality people. I really enjoy my job, mostly because of the people I work with. The pay is higher than most other retail jobs, and the insurance is great.

ConsYou end up working almost every weekend.

Best Retail Employer

Area Manager (Former Employee)
Sacramento, CA (US)

I worked at Costco Wholesale full-time for more than 10 years

ProsTop of the pay and benefits totem pole in the industry.
Great job for working students or working moms/dads.
Flexible work hours (depending on warehouse).
Opportunities to learn about other departments.

ConsRetail hours.
Retail Stress.
Immature work environment (because of the nature of hires) a lot of out-of-high school and college students.

Advice to Senior ManagementShare the BIG PICTURE with all employees. Goals, vision, expectations are ambiguous which leads to a culture of "employee against company".

You work hard for your pay, but they make it worth it.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Costco Wholesale part-time

ProsThe pay and benefits are great. It feels like one of those "campuses" that you hear the big tech companies have for their employees. They really seem to care about their employees. They're level with you so you know whats what and when you're getting promotions and so forth. You're allowed communication with everywhere on the chain of command.

ConsIf you are under performing you will be cut, its easy to be late and get lunch violations. Depending on what department it can get over-whelming.

What is the deal with Costco...?

Front End Cashier (Current Employee)
Oak Brook, IL (US)

I have been working at Costco Wholesale full-time for more than 10 years

ProsThe best part is the pay, I have to admit. But, I think that the best "Pro" is the benefits package that comes with working at Costco.

ConsSometimes the members can be a little bit obnoxious. Having to stand on a concrete floor for 6-8 hours a day can be very tiring.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere is a saying that goes like this..."Managers do things right, and Leaders do the right things". I think that it would be great if more of the managers would follow that advise.

Family oriented

Cashier (Former Employee)
San Jose, CA (US)

I worked at Costco Wholesale full-time for more than 3 years

Prosflexible hours, and always able to get over time if you need it. It is not mandatory but it's nice to know if you need extra cash you can work more.

ConsThis place is more for college and high school students to start out with, if you have a college degree you may want to look elsewhere because they won't hire you for management right from the outside.
