I worked at Daktronics for more than 10 years
Pros – - Learn real world experiences with opportunities to be mentored by front-line employees
- Always encouraging learning
- Student incentives for applicable classes
- Flexible work schedule (depending on the position)
- Variability in work assignments, ability to apply internally for different positions
- Global company (travelling possible)
- High visibility of products
Cons – - Pay lower than average
- After making money hand over fist, they continue to struggle since the downturn
- Coaching out(passive or active) is more likely for current employees that need mentoring
- Few leadership opportunities because of stagnant growth
- Many aspects of culture are unprofessional (HR doesn't help either)
Advice to Senior Management – Management/HR needs to connect more with employees - there is an impression of rule by fear. You aren't immune to mistakes yourselves, be willing to be vulnerable. Show a bit more love to your employees than investors for a time - both will thank you, one over time. Don't delegate employee recognition - make it personal.

I worked at Daktronics as an intern for less than a year
Pros – Most of the time they are willing to work around your class schedule. As a student worker you get handed real responsibilites you can grow from.
Cons – Require a minimum of 20 hrs per week which can get a bit hard if you have a busy class schedule.

I have been working at Daktronics part-time for more than 3 years
Pros – lots of opportunities for diverse experiences.
Cons – When the snow falls it does not stay on the ground. One day of snow could turn into a week long blizzard.. If you move here buy a truck.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep up the good work.

I have been working at Daktronics full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Dak is a company centered on good morals and hard work ethic. It is also an engineering-focused company, which is great for product development, but does not provide the greatest leadership for sales and marketing efforts. Dak may be a leader in the LED video industry, but many of its competitors are massive corporations like Mitsubishi which win many large projects here and there but offer dismal support. Dak has unmatched service and support resources.
Cons – The pay is notoriously weak, being based in south dakota doesn't really help the cause. Many old-timers have the mindset that the domestic market will continue to provide revenue and growth for the company but it's obvious that the international market is where most of the future growth is held. Project management and customer service are areas that need to be greatly improved if the growth is going to continue. Almost everyone in Dak is internally promoted or changes job roles every few years, which may be good for professional growth, but the company loses productivity as a result. Turnover in many roles is chronic. Hours I work are wildly variable, weekends, holidays, nights, it makes your personal life rather difficult or non-existent.

I worked at Daktronics full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Lots of good people that work in front line positions at the company, interesting industry, and a useful learning opportunity.
Cons – Largely disorganized management and customer service, lack of ethics, arrogant leadership with no regard for others, be they customers, shareholders, or employees. Inadequate and unequal pay for like work, terrible Human Resources and customer service departments. Lack of consistency.
Advice to Senior Management – That new-school management style looks terrible on you, as a company. It will take many years for the company to recover from the damage you're doing to Daktronics. Take a hard look at yourselves, recent changes in policies and procedures (or lack of observance of said policies), and accept that your loss of customer base is due to your own failures. You can't keep blaming your losses on your competitors' success, when it's you who've lost your way.

I have been working at Daktronics as a contractor for more than a year
Pros – Fair pay for contract work. Some training provided for entry-level sports production positions. Producer is excellent at team-building and very patient. Duties are well-defined.
Cons – Online software for submitting events for pay is awkward and confusing to use. Pay is only distributed on a monthly basis.
Advice to Senior Management – Replace the Certify software.
