Pros – Good people

Good pension
You are given chances to improve

Advice to Senior Management – Reward your people more, the team at Dell is better than most companies with very litre dross, you cannot apply a bell curve to them.

I have been working at Dell full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – - Professional Working environment
- A Good start for those looking to get into Enterprise level infrastructure (from a hardware basis, Server/Networking/Storage)
- Good resources to hand to assist employees improve knowledge if they are looking towards industry certificates
- focuses a lot on the customer, what concerns they have and addresses them
- There's a strong movement within the business to move away from Hardware support only to a services support structure
- Benifits and compensation reasonable if nothing else
Cons – - If your not based in one of the main support hubs, career progression can be extremely limited as there isn't that much of an opportunity to develop
- for those going out of their way for the business and assisting the business in various needs is not rewarded and instead criticized
- For the type of work, too much emphasis on metric based results rather than letting staff do what is required to get the issue resolved
Advice to Senior Management – The direction dell is taking now is right for how we need to evolve as a business, however this isn't being taking into consideration from a lower management perspective as they are looking to operate on basic targets with lack of understanding of the movement the business is undertaking
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

I worked at Dell
Pros – Fast pace, flat structure. Lots of autonomy. Due to the lack of layers there is a lot of breadth to most roles.
Cons – Flat structure means little room for advancement. Major chasm between senior management and director level grades. Culture of hiring external talent to fill senior jobs rather than develop from within.
Advice to Senior Management – Invest more on staff development. Stop cutting back on HR and show you truly value your people. Rediscover the entrepeneurial edge, rather than be a "me too" services player.

I worked at Dell
Pros – Dell has a decent pay structure and reasonable benefits, including participation in pension. Home working is encouraged. The Bracknell canteen does a good job at fair prices.
Cons – Endless layers of management who have no idea what their underlings do; constant introduction of pet restructuring projects which last until the manager moves on (which can be after only a couple of months).
Advice to Senior Management – Usual US-centric view; in recent massive round of layoffs, jobs were outsourced to Central Europe (cheaper), clawed back for the US; or simply dropped. No thought for allowing headcount to stay, but at minimal salary level, thus retaining key skills.

I worked at Dell
Pros – There are some really great people at Dell and having a career at Dell can be really rewarding, you get to learn a hell of a lot and it can be a good place to work because you are trusted to manage yourself and your time, it really helps to grow you as a person. You have to work really hard but then the benefits are well worth it.
Cons – There are some excellent managers at Dell however unfortunately they always seem to be the ones who are not favoured because they dare to stand up and say what they really think, personally I admire that way or working because at least you know where you stand and can count on them for the truth of a situation when you really need it. Its shame that those attributes are not valued more within Dell.
On the flip side there are some really bad managers who dont listen and are weak / spineless because they dont stand up for the good of their staff when it really counts, "managing upwards" I think is the expression where they are only looking out for themselves.
Advice to Senior Management – You lost a lot of good people and knowledge because you valued Cost cutting over Quality and unfortunately that is biting you on the ass now with the issues that you are seeing, youve made some very poor decisions. That and the fact that you need to give some of the IT folks a break sometime, instead of working them to death. Let them just fix the issues before you move onto the next big project. People dont want to visit the Dell.Com when its performance is so bad and it takes them twice as long to order the products they want to buy.

I have been working at Dell
Pros – After all the issues, still a strong company with many unique features you can learn from.
Cons – Currently, a confused organisation trying to figure out what to do with itself.
Advice to Senior Management – Career progression is too cryptic and mysterious.
