I have been working at Delphi full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good technical work, good opportunities. excellent test/analysis facilities.

    Cons

little experience brought in from outside, lots of graduates make up the work force and technical experience limited to in house training. little in the way of employees benefits, and could do with spending more on social/welfare areas to keep the workforce happy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

splash out a little to keep employees feeling valued.

I have been working at Delphi

    Pros

Technical detail to great depth and work is promoted in a structured manner. Generally good knowledgeable and enthusiastic teams. Access to training is good when there's time and a suitable budget.

    Cons

Very demanding with poor work-life balance. Work is usually poorly defined and wanted at short notice. Staff expected to work all hours to meet unreasonable targets. Lack of trust of management in guys doing the work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to strive for technical excellence and develop the name 'Delphi' as a recognised brand. Acknowledge staff and recognise their efforts. Improve and coordinate planning and facilities. Improve staff moral by developing social interaction between departments. Adopt, communicate and maintain a clear business direction.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Delphi full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Informal working environment, quite relaxed. Good work/life balance.

    Cons

Lack of HR support. Mobility within the group limited (HR managed locally)
Everything feel like the individual employee come second (or third, or even more) in order of priority
Feel like the company is managed week by week, no long term vision/investment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your people, or you are going to loose them...

I worked at Delphi full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great to have paid work for a year.
Ten other students made it easy to organise house sharing.
    I learned to programme.
I learned a lot about general internal combustion engine knowledge from the other employees there.
Good to have industrial experience so early on in my career.

    Cons

Part of my job involved running a test rig which was very boring.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A little more variety in the YINI scheme would have been appreciated.

I have been working at Delphi full-time

    Pros

High number of graduates so very good work environment. Lots of opportunity for experience across different engineering functions.

    Cons

    Some old school management style.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shakeup the old school management style. Give employees more empowerment and flexibility to their working hours. This can only contribute to increased satisfaction with work.

Former Intern - Student Engineer in Gillingham, England

I worked at Delphi as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

A wide variety of things to do. Excellent CV booster. They realise you're still a student so let you learn while working.

    Cons

Lots of Excel. Sometimes there can be a lot of downtime where you have nothing to do. Not everything you do will be applicable to your degree.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow students slightly more responsibility. Get a new ticket system. Disallow attachements over a megabyte onto the worldwide mailing list.

Former Employee - Senior Product Engineer in Lockport, NY (US)
Former Employee - Senior Product Engineer in Lockport, NY (US)

I worked at Delphi full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Up to the Chief Engineer level, managers were very accessible and approachable. In most cases, managers had achieved their positions through merit and hard-work.

    Cons

Delphi Thermal has been sold by Delphi Automotive to Mahle GmbH. There are likely going to be significant changes at Delphi Thermal. Time will tell if the changes benefit the organization and business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please ensure that Engineering Managers accept the engineering results from testing and draw the proper conclusions from those results, rather than maintaining their perspective or opinion based on their own assumptions or original hypothesis. More simply, managers should defer to the conclusions that working-level engineers have proven via testing.
