I have been working at Emmis Communications full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Smaller radio conglomerate - you don't necessarily disappear like you would for bigger entities
Framework is in place for great office culture and is supported by corporate.
There is opportunity to learn more than your own position if you seek it out.
Corporate makes an effort to touch all cities / clusters regularly

    Cons

No real substantial growth - or if there is - there's no real clear path to said growth position
Framework adaptation is contingent upon the cluster - so if they're not buying it, you're not feeling that culture.
Pay is markedly lower than other similar companies.
"Promotions" come in the form of new title and more work - not necessarily more pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A program needs to be put in place and enforced to help folks grow their career. Longevity is very good and is a nice concept but you don't want people thinking they're going to die in the job - implying they won't go anywhere.

I worked at Emmis Communications as an intern

    Pros

If you raise your hand, you'll be rewarded. There were opportunities to work with a variety of staff members on almost any project. Supervisors are still very understanding of being a student and an intern and balancing both of those roles.

    Cons

If you don't volunteer for things, may not have as many opportunities to succeed/earn clips because there can be multiple interns working at the same time. It could be easy for some to get lost in the shuffle.

    Cons

Companywide pay-cut less than two weeks of being hired. Horrible Chief Information Officer with no management skills.

    Great Internship experience

I worked at Emmis Communications as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

Great laid back environment. Actually learn a lot about radio on the entertainment side a well as the business side.

    Cons

Some times the interns have no work and nothing to do. That is when you should make your self known to all the other departments and make yourself stick out.

I have been working at Emmis Communications as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great company to intern for. Every employee is very friendly and willing to help you with anything. Very flexible at working with your school schedule. Interns are encouraged to job shadow in various different departments, which is pretty cool. I interned in the spring and got to help the marketing/promotions department with SXSW. Great learning experience. Gives you good insight of how a radio broadcasting company functions.

    Cons

Opportunities for employment at the end of the internship are pretty slim. Internship is also unpaid and you must get school credit in order to intern for Emmis. Other than that, everything else is pretty great.

    I worked at Emmis Communications

    Pros

Working in the corporate HQ building has it's perks. It was a beautiful building during my time there. Great employees. Fun atmosphere.

    Cons

In my time there, the company struggled with cash flow so I saw some creature comforts go away....nothing that messed with my day to day work life, just perks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend time with everyone, not just sales people!
