Endless, Slow Downward Slide

Environmental Scientist (Former Employee)

ProsCoworkers are generally professional, likable, and friendly.
Willing to offer flexible schedules; good about avoiding excessive individual workloads.
Support staff (nonprofessional) tend to be very helpful and caring; however this trait is quickly dissipating over time.
Good opportunities to learn, get training, and try new tasks and various projects.

ConsHorrendous pay with a laughable [minimum] yearly raise and sub-par benefits.
Frequently lay-off employees due to light workload ... and then look to hire again without any reason or improvement in workload.
Have no qualms about firing/laying-off workers just in time for holidays.
Huge disparity in work consistency and quality between offices; offices are extremely resistant to sharing work with each other.
Poor quality control in outgoing/final documents (grammar, spelling, etc.).
Immense disparity about operational procedures and quality between offices. Upper management (office/department/program managers, etc.) on the west coast is downright horrible to work for/with, with a tendency to be lazy, whereas midwest upper management is much better. Lower level workers are generally good quality throughout.
H&S program is becoming suffocating to field personnel, causing field activities to suffer.
Increasing trend of project managers not managing their projects, delegating duties to others. What exactly are they managing?!

Advice to Senior ManagementStop acquiring companies and absorbing them into AECOM. Instead, work on improving the current company and its operations.

Siloism, poor systems, low salary and plenty of ass-covering

Environmental Consultant (Former Employee) Melbourne (Australia)

I worked at AECOM full-time for more than a year

Pros: Many interesting companies taken over with some great people to work with, interesting projects… Cons: Complex systems that were region-blind, moderate to low salary, too many silos between take-over… Advice to Senior Management: Stop buying companies without integrating them properly, take time to nurture systems and… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend More

Houston is a sinking ship - don't get on board and if you are on board, get off while there are still some life boats.

Project Manager (Former Employee) Houston, TX (US)

I worked at AECOM full-time for more than 10 years

Pros: Benefits, vacation, cool projects, used to be great people there… Cons: Upper management has no vision and has no clue what is going on in Houston. With a steady stream of people… Advice to Senior Management: Actually listen to employees - good luck with the open office concept that will not work. Also, probably shouldn't lay off another 28 year… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company… More
