    Pros

Many potential opportunities for advancement within such a large, reputable company once you have your foot in the door, great benefits

    Cons

Business politics limit access to all of the opportunities for advancement within the company - you will definitely have to "play the game" to get noticed by upper management. Upper management has clear favorites and you will see those people move up the ranks quickly. This is great if you're one of those favorites, but advancement isn't going to happen until you catch upper management's eye, regardless of your qualifications for any potential promotion. If you come into the company with connections in high places, you're pretty much golden. If you don't, expect to work very hard making those connections first before looking to any opportunities for advancement. There is significantly more emphasis on who you know within the company than what abilities you actually bring to the table.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the "T" for talent in your TIME mantra more seriously. There is potential untapped talent right under your noses with the drive and skills worth developing to move up. Particularly younger employees that may not have come into the company with connections in high places and so were not noticed early on, but are motivated to move up, bring fresh new ideas to the table, and overall much more willing to put career first, whether that be working long hours, traveling, relocating, etc. Company loyalty doesn't have to become a thing of the past, especially within such a large organization with near endless opportunities to pursue any career path. The "Millenial Generation" will be be your future leaders and, although you are clearly starting to focus more on cultivating this talent, management needs to look beyond the younger well-networked employees that already know the right people. Within such a large company it's very easy for talent to get lost in the shuffle. If you make developmental opportunities more readily and universally accessible (rather than focusing development on a select few favorites), you may be surprised by the people that just hadn't been given the chance to showcase their passion, drive, and talent before.

I have been working at Abbott Nutrition full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

great group to work with, enjoy being part of a colaborative environment and get to work with a bunch of groups within research. Its nice to work with others who are motivated, have goals, and who do the right thing.

    Cons

commensation is lacking compared to other companies conducting equivelant work. Hard to also watch others continually get promoted when they do a significant less amount of work while others are expected to operate at a higher efficiency.
