Current Employee - Software Development Engineer in Seattle, WA (US)

I have been working at Amazon.com full-time (less than an year)

Pros

The management is amazing and the internship experience is equally amazing. I have learned more at the company in 3 months than I did in my entire degree in college.

Cons

The job is in Seattle and as everyone knows, the weather there isn't amazing. Also not a big fan of the city.

You'll work hard, be inspired by the customer, but not by the leadership or culture inside the lifelines.

    I worked at Amazon.com full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Challenge yourself.
Know how your work impacts the customer.
Love the lack of power point, caring what you wear, and the focus of Jeff B.
The location of HQ - Southlake Union is awesome, and so is Seattle.
RSU equity can build and be rewarding.

    Cons

HR culture - not good at all.
Too many leaders that really do not care about their people.
Simple manners are lacking - how are you doing, what can I do to help you, and great job on that project are all phrases you may never hear.
You don't come hear to be inspired by a leader. You won't get mentored or developed by anyone but yourself.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a hard look at your HR Directors and VP's. Just because they made it work 5 years ago, doesn't mean they're making the company better today. Your lack of investment into systems and automation, as well as Learning and Development for recruiters and HR is going to catch up to you soon. Use the word retention once in a while...you're running out of talent pools to fish in and building a reputation of being a meat grinder.
