I have been working at AmerisourceBergen full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Good people to work with, benefits are good (i.e. medical/dental);

Cons

Top heavy, a lot of directors/VP's with little to no management experience (actual managing of employees), transparency / communication, work/life balance issues, employees afraid to speak up.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow your teams to provide you constructive feedback that will help enable the company to reach its goals. Use active listening to feedback provided and follow up to suggestions. Thank your teams publicly for the extra mile they go rather then expecting it. If you don't turnover will continue.

    A company going through major business units transition, under a relatively new leadership.

    I worked at AmerisourceBergen full-time

    Pros

    AmerisourceBergen is a fast-paced organization with much to offer its employees on their career path. The organization has a clearly defined set of core values that shows in its culture at the corporate office. Organization growth varies based on the business unit but in general appears to be a mix of acquisition, and organic growth.

    Cons

    AmerisourceBergen, like many organizations its size, and with a similar number of business units spanning many countries has a hard time promoting its culture outside of corporate offices. Local culture, and autonomy has been promoted by various business units in an 'us versus them' approach, causing confusion and a somewhat fractured organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Work on bridging the gap between corporate and business unit cultures without killing the autonomy of the business unit. In another way of putting it, draw business units closer to corporate without killing profitibility. The defined culture is a winner, you just need to sell it effectively within the organization.
