I worked at BHP Billiton full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The salary and beneifts are above average.

    Cons

Feckless management (people in positions which they do not have the skills, either technical or managerial, to perfom), total lack of work/life balance, top down management and internal polltics stifling any and all initiatives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your employees to get the job done, where ever they may be in the world. Irrational expectations of face-time with supervisors i.e. sitting in the office from 9-5, especially under heavy global travel schedules, is not a productivity driver. Flexible work arrangements in most workplaces are the norm these days, not the exception.
