Nice people, decent pay

I have been working at Barclays Capital

Pros

Decent salary, fairly relaxed and friendly working culture. People were nice, the team I was in had some really experienced people, so you could learn a lot.

Cons

The operations were not running very well... so you ended up chasing them up most of your time. Pretty tiring after a while.

I worked at Barclays Capital full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Nice work-life balance. Mid-level managers seem to be genuinely concerned with junior staff. Good cafeteria and in general the carpets are clean and the staff is friendly.

    Cons

There is less than ideal deal flow at the junior level so you may have trouble switching to a buy side role if that's something that interests you.

    Recommends
    Positive Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

Local team camaraderie and good business relationship but walls are put up for other teams

I have been working at Barclays Capital full-time

    Pros

    Very supportive immediate boss/manager.
A pretty family-friendly environment that supports work/life balance pretty well.
    Generally strong relationships with business.
New CEO seems to be the right person for the time.

    Cons

Infrastructure teams are very difficult to work with.
People openly put distance between themselves and other teams they need to work with.
The interaction with fellow employees in desks nearby is pretty minimal.
Local team interaction can at times be sparse and meetings only called to address fire drills or fires.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep an eye on the base level and ask individuals "in the trenches" what their challenges are.
Get infrastructure in line and stop over-doing the bureaucracy in getting things done through them.
Setup a system where any change that is scheduled to happen will automatically notify every dependent team involved early enough and provide a feedback loop.

    Recommends
    Negative Outlook
