I have been working at Barclays

Pros

Pretty relaxed for a financial firm. Work is easy. Good opportunity for advancement in the UK.

Cons

The focus on meritocracy is really a sham. Promotions have more to do with who you know and how long you've been around. Equities are decent, but across the majority of the internal engineering organization - most of the talent has already walked out the door. XP desktops are still the norm.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

A better focus on well thought out technical leadership and modern technologies would be a welcome change

No opinion of CEO

Some great managers, many of average (at best) competence.

    I worked at Barclays

    Pros

Good, flexible benefits, interesting work and many very engaged colleagues

    Cons

    Low visibility of senior management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More effort required in ensuring strategic direction and - in particular - major change initiatives are communicated effectively by leadership and management teams to ensure proper engagement

I have been working at Barclays

    Pros

Better package compared to other organizations
Lots of leaves - 30 casual and 12 sick
    Fairly good transport facility
    Free breakfast

    Cons

    No work life balance
    Managers treat resources like labors
Barclays has lot of vendor staff, so there is constant permanent vs vendor politics ongoing, your managers will never support you whereas they will treat vendor staff better than client
    Hardly any vertical growth opportunities.
This being a captive organization, managers know that opportunities within the organization are less as compared to other service based companies, hence they make full use of it for their advantage and leave no stone unturned in terms of exploiting the resources

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your permanent staff more respectfully
Provide growth opportunities to deserving candidates
