    I worked at BlackBerry full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Free use of a BlackBerry. Free coffee. Location is nice. Co workers were great. Benefits package is average

    Cons

    That free BlackBerry is like a ball and chain. As the saying goes, Always on Always connected... to your work and its a global company 24 7. Business is running in corrective action mode. Lack of business processes, many are not held accountable for their ( lack of ) for actions . Performance reviews and management coaching seems like lip service. Layers of management aka directors were added during growth but not removed during reorganization. Cross functional communication is poor, groups operate in silos looking after their own interest but fail to see the big picture. So many are gone now, the company has lost the critical mass to carry on. Many employees are hired based on relation to each other rather than qualifications. One of my co workers couldn't even spell or compose a sentence.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Never understood the selection process for those who were let go. Why would you dismiss your most experienced and mature workers who built the organization and hired the inexperienced staff you kept. There was no offer for a pay reduction to stay on, grant contract status etc. Most are over paid for what they do. Get rid of some overpaid directors and keep some people who actually do the work. One director earns the salary of several admin or analyst positions.
