I have been working at DaVita full-time (more than an year)

Pros

The patients are wonderful. You really get to know them when you spend so much time together. Great teamwork environment. Excellent training. Fair compensation and benfits. I really feel appreciated and heard with this company.

Cons

I really wish they offered a matching 401(k), though they say they are generous with bonuses and profit sharing instead.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer a matching 401(k)! Not all clinics are eligible for bonuses. Otherwise, fantastic job!

    I have been working at DaVita full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good low level people, that really work together to fight the insanity leveled against them by their management.

    Cons

    Very top heavy management structure.
    IT is ran by low level devs who couldn't do code so they opted for management.
    No true process, they call their process One IT but no one talks about how it's ruined every project that has used it. It's a WaterSCRUMFall process that simply doesn't work. You create documents to check off that you simply created it rather then the fact it provided insight on how to do development. When you point this out you then become accountable to find a process that works and still mark off the exact documents they need. Deviation is not good for the process.
    Innovation is produced by a process and oversight, not insight or hard work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Start promoting your hard workers with good ideas, instead of the popular people who do nothing for you but waste time of everyone else.
    The new Chief Officers and new VP's have sold out the idea of the village mentality and left a corporate husk in it's place.

    I have been working at DaVita full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Making a difference in patient's lives
    Distinctive culture (can be a pro or a con)
    Big focus on volunteerism and community service
    Core values really are the focus

    Cons

    Cult-like (we call it "culture - so did Jim Jones!)
    Lousy pay (and we are proud to say so!)
    "Fun" gets shoved down your throat - you won't advance unless you are a rah-rah type - participating in skits and "fun" activities is what gets you promoted
    They invest in these young managers who can't manage their way out of a paper bag- called "Redwoods"
    They say they "reward performance" but managers are limited to being able to give the only a few of the great performers these big bonuses DaVita is so proud of - and then senior managers try to dictate who those people should be, rather than letting the line managers, who know their people best, determine the awards
    Manager bonuses are a joke - they recruit you saying you have a 15% bonus potential - what they don't tell you is you will never get more than 68% of that
    They stopped a "Magic Wand" question on the annual employee survey because they didn't like the feedback they were getting

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Invest in your people - they are worth it
    If you have an extra Million$$ lying around, give it to the worker bees who care for your patients
    The Company has done well - give your teammates 3% increases next year
    Stop insulting people when they continue to ask why we don't have a 401(k) match - you only make yourself look small, KT.
    KT - go into politics, which is where we know you want to be. Get someone in here who knows how to pay competitively and isn't managing this company like it still has 500 people
    Why don't you RE-SURVEY the teammates and see whether low-paid clinic teammates still don't want a 401(k) match? You might be surprised.
    Stop wasting a million dollars (and I am not exaggerating) on these MANDATED all-company celebrations. Sure, a handful of people love it - but the rest of us are too afraid to tell you the money would be better spent investing in us.
