Pros

The best reason to work at DynaVox is the customers. Great to feel good about delivering the products into the customers that need it.

The people actually doing the work at DynaVox are what make the place tolerable.

Cons

The senior executives are clearly living in their own world. They are rarely in the office and when they are they are behind closed doors with each other.

Your safety in the organization is only safe if you stay on the good side of the top executives.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make it into the office or the field with sales reps once in a while. Learn what it takes to do the different jobs and stop changing around the organization so much.

Take a look outside of the existing product offerings and get competitive. Why buy an expensive device if an iPad and some software can meet my needs?

    I worked at DynaVox

    Pros

    Strong financial backing ensures competitive product development and strong presence in the market.

    Company continues to make strides in a difficult industry.

    Cons

    There is a huge disconnect with what is happening in the field and senior management. There just isn't enough inside knowledge at the top. There is a lot of talent but senior management is suffering from insufficient experience in a very specialized industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Senior management should really spend more time in the field and understand the culture of their customers instead of focusing so much on the business of business.

    I worked at DynaVox

    Pros

    Place you feel good about working for and proud of what you do for customers. Focus seemed to be shifting more towards increasing profit rather than product quality, as emphasized by all veteran employees there.

    Cons

    Loaded with very big egos, many of them unjustified. A little more professional management needs to pervade here, as many minor routine management tasks are overlooked or just plain skipped, such as performance reviews.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Give routine performance assessments and routine professional progress assessments. You have employees who actually want to work there; help them continue feeling that way and help them more directly / tangibly develop. Don't let your huge ego get in the way of that.
