Working in a company with little control over your future and performance

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time

    Pros

Good emphasis on work and life balance. Good projects to work on if your performance is good. Good pension benefits.

    Cons

Performance ranking is highly dependent on your supervisor, so you better hope to be lucky. Your career path is determined by factors beyond your control.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rating and ranking system is extremely flawed and favors extroverts over introverts, even if introverts are lot more effective at their job.

I worked at ExxonMobil full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some of the best Benefits and Salary in the industry (and entire private sector).

    Cons

Very cut throat. "UP or OUT" mentality. You're ranked against your peers and the bottom 15-20% are pushed out the door. No work/life balance at all. Be ready to work 50+ hours per week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a look at the corporate culture you're creating. If you don't want top talent to jump ship after 3-5 years, look at making some culture changes. You're losing a long term talent battle.
