Current Employee - Engineer in San Jose, CA (US)

Pros

Good benefit, used to be very good especially on insurance and etc.
Used to be a great place to work at and have work-life balance
OK Salary

Cons

very bad management recently,
asked to work over weekends,
very bad project planning and management,
some team were hired and paid very high just because of Foundry,
very hard to get promoted if you are not some one in higher management radar, aka not in the core project,

Advice to ManagementAdvice

listen to the engineers, please! you guys used to listening well!
don't just hire and promote your old friends from Foundry! there are many good F5 engineers as well!

F5 is an awesome place to work. It's the leader in it's market (ADC) and now expanding into other markets.

Current Employee - Senior Software Engineer in San Jose, CA (US)

    Pros

Leader in ADC market with a clear vision of expansion into other markets (security, firewall, cloud).
There is still a startup mood at F5.
Good salary, great people at work.
    Good medical insurance + flex-plan + ESPP.

    Cons

San Jose office is boring. Seattle is better. Tel Aviv office is good. Tomsk office is the best.
There is no culture at F5. No hackathons, no beer parties, no pet projects.
    Bad communication between different teams.
    Micromanagement.
Lots of hiring recently which bloated once a small company. Some junk hires.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees - they have great ideas. Not all ideas should come from PMs, some engineers are better than PMs in identifying the vision.

Former Employee - Systems Administrator II  in  Seattle, WA (US)
Former Employee - Systems Administrator II in Seattle, WA (US)

    Pros

The environment is very relaxed for the IT tepartment. The IT Operations Team is very tight-knit. Projects are coordinated and then handed out, but the team is small enough that your voice is very clearly heard when doing architecture work.

    Cons

There isn't a lot of room to move up in the company. Historically, they're not great at career development for employees; you're left to your own devices there.
