I worked at General Motors full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

GM will teach you a tremendous amount regarding surviving and prospering in a changing environment. The experience will harden you and force self-reliance.

Cons

GM does not consistently adhere to its core values.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

GM needs to finish the job of "cleaning house" -- As long as the pre-bankruptcy executive leaders are in power (with only a few exceptions), GM will continue to sustain business as usual. Intense focus needs to be placed on building automotive manufacturing capability and intellectual capital to encourage innovation and creativity that will bring on youth engagement and excitement around the GM brand.

I have been working at General Motors as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Nice People, but they don't use technology effecively and rarely think of new/better ways of doing a task. My boss did give me a chance to meet with other departements so that I could have a better understanding of the business.

    Cons

You can see why they went under, totally inefficent and money spent on lots of unecessary projects. People were impressed with me using Power Point (really?). It was partially due to an older work force, but that's still not acceptable. Some people were still using projection slides for presentations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend money like it's your own.
