Current Employee - Senior Manager in Basildon, South East England, England

I have been working at IFDS full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Highly respected and forward thinking business, winning the lions share of its core market through thought leadership and innovation. Provides high quality customer service and IT solutions. This in turn provides excellent career opportunities, internal mobility is encouraged and greater international opportunities through more globalisation,. The next phase of growth is very exciting with major investment in two new market lines starting the bear fruit.

Cons

They work you hard! An outsourcing company works on tight margins and as such carries little fat. We all work with 100% effort and probably at 110% capacity all the time! If you want to coast or struggle to deliver to tight and pressured deadlines we are probably not the place for you.

I have been working at IFDS full-time

    Pros

    - The people: friendly, helpful
    - The location: downtown Toronto core; walking distance to Union; choice of restaurants around
    - Small company (less than 500 in Toronto) so you get to know a lot of people quickly

    Cons

    - Senior Management (IT) - about 60% of Sr Management (Directors to CIO) have only about 7-8 months experience with company. New CIO started in Nov 2013 and left (well, that's the "official" word) at the end of January 2015.
    - So kind of revolving door: as example, in last 5 years, the PMO/Delivery Services group in IT has gone through 5 VPs (now SVPs).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Need stability. Difficult for all when the directions (not the overall strategy to be more profitable) on how to do things keep changing with the constant change of people. Change is ok, however having to adapt to different style of management every 6-12 months is ... not efficient, time consuming and overall costly (especially with the number of severance being paid!).
