I worked at IOM full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Friendly, bright colleagues. Clean, modern offices with up-to-date computers and hardware. Very good salary compared to standards in Syria.

Cons

Very weak management. Nepotism. Many hard-working employees feel under-appreciated. No prospects for growth or promotion within the organization, all positions feel like a dead-end job. No prospects of becoming an international employee.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better motivation and appreciation of employees. Change hierarchy and structure to allow for growth among the organization's ladder.

I have been working at IOM

    Pros

Can end up taking up someone else's responsibilities or doing more than your job description which can provide good opportunities.
    Good name-in some areas

    Cons

Lack of core funding for field offices means every position is projectized which can result in a focus on proposing low-quality projects just to pay for staff, and since everyone is on a certain project, there is always less time for very valuable tasks in HR, management, and monitoring.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Core positions should be funded in field missions as it creates the con above in order to produce higher quality projects and outputs.
