Former Employee - Tailor in Chesapeake, VA (US)

Pros

Loved the tailoring position and my relationship with the customers

Cons

Corporate put an extreme amount of demands on the tailors and then you have a store manager that is a control freak, there is no way but out. My blood pressure fell 30 points, 3 days after I left.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a hard look at your guidelines concerning tailoring. You are driving your tailors into the ground.

    Pros

The clothes are nice. No one pays full price, so at 60% off or more, it's the best quality for the money.

    Cons

The pay is awful, many employees make minimum wage vs. commission, not plus as they are intentionally led to believe when applying to the job. Only a few months out of the year will most salespeople make enough sales to beat their commission rate, with 80% of sales staff making less than $20,000 per year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay a living wage to employees if they are expected to promote an upscale image. Attempt to make a positive contribution to the store environment.

    Pros

NICE CUSTOMERS, a representation of poor management, great networking, okay money at a busy store

    Cons

long hours, no training, horrible alterations, poor management at store level and regionally

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

train your staff, pay a little more, stop having sales, promote store level marketing to colleges, law offices, anybody who wears suits. at this point you've trained your customers to only come in when its a sale.
