I have been working at Michaels Stores part-time

Pros

Great managers, fun customers, hard working & friendly co-workers.

Cons

You need to he willing to work physically hard. Rearranging isles, displays always. Unloading trucks weekly & meeting regular deadlines. Everyone is expected to work as a team & slackers do not last long.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is great. Very sensitive to employeess needs. They have a difficult job trying to keep upper management happy, employees happy & customers happy.

I have been working at Michaels Stores

    Pros

If you like to stay busy..work on the replenishment team or be a closing associate. Replenishment team does all the "work" and is out of the store by noon usually. If you are a closing associate, you will be the only one. Nobody scheduled at night..or the day, for that matter. But all the returns and recovery is up to you so you will have plenty to do.

    Cons

Too much to do for the time alloted, unqualified managers, so called Store of the Future HUGE flop in that ALL the responsibilities are on the Replenishment Manager, definitely not equally divided between managers which of course, leads to resentment.Assistant and or Operation managers are wasted positions and a waste of company money. They are irrelevant postions. Replenishment Mgr.. should be salary to be able to get everything completed on time and correctly. Other management positions are not structured and much time is wasted and underutilized. No accountability for store managers. Many positions filled by unqualified associates simply because they were interesested..not qualified.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come out of the office and do something besides make a list. We know what needs to be done..Hold associates and yourselves accountable for tasks not completed. As a company, look at how much time and money is wasted. Was the managers meeting in Dallas really beneficial and cost effective A list of dates could easily have been emailed..seems like the only useful info. that came out of that meeting. Compensation should be based on importance of position. More training for associates. Take a lesson form Lowes..excellent training available. How about increasing store lighting in the stores before opening hours and maybe some air conditioning would increase productivity for the early morning teams.
