I worked at Michaels Stores part-time (more than an year)

Pros

Pay was higher than minimum wage- started out at $9.25, after two years I was at $9.48
Awesome merchandise
Great coworkers

Cons

Not enough workers there- sometimes only 3 people for entire store
Only given 30 min break for working 8 sometimes 9 hours
breaks are only given for 6 hr shifts- always scheduled 5 1/2 hrs....
Hectic- long line, one cashier

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate is corrupt and expect too much without sufficient pay
No respect for employees that have been there for 5+ years
Often accused of stealing- cameras installed only to observe hard working employees

    I have been working at Michaels Stores part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    My manager was a major reason I enjoyed working at Michael's. he was interesting and funny and made work enjoyable.

    Cons

    It is basically minimum wage. As a member of the replenishment team, we do a lot of work. Some of it is very physical as we are required to build fixtures and continuously bend and walk around the store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop taking our hours away just because sales goals were not reached! If people do not come into the store on a certain day, sales are obviously not going to be met. As employees, we cannot help this event and should not suffer because of it. We can only push sales to those actually in the store.

    Growing company, but IT is a big mess

    I have been working at Michaels Stores full-time

    Pros

    it is still growing in business, meaning IT has lots of things to do. Dont have to worry about being laid off at this moment.

    Cons

    IT management is a big mess. There is no asset management, no IT service management. Most of the employees are contractors, no ownership. Employees turn over rate is high.
