I have been working at Northwestern Mutual as an intern for less than a year

Pros

Great people.
Company morals are top notch.
Flexible hours.
Lots of trips for all employees.
High commissions.

Cons

It is a networking, personal sales position for most of the company which can be difficult. You have to have a strong work ethic and be self motivated to do well in this job. Pay is based strictly on commission. You're pretty much on your own when it comes to the business side of things.

    I worked at Northwestern Mutual full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    You will learn how to build your book of business. You will learn how to manage your time for maximum efficiency and productivity. You will choose who you want to do business with. You will learn how to communicate and gather important information from clients so you can provide custom tailored solutions to them.

    Cons

    You're expected to be at a morning meeting at 7:30 every day and review publicly what you've accomplished regarding your stated goals.
    If your manager requires you to book 4 new appointments a day, you will call until you do so.
    Like it or not, everyone's production numbers are posted system wide every month.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Have more informal events where new and experienced agents can interact.
