Pros

OMNOVA Solutions would bring in some good employees who were competent to work with. Their employee training program is average. Management watch dollars like a hawk.

Cons

The company has a "Big Brother" mentality. They believe that whatever any V.P or managing director says must be the gospel. There is no challenging of edicts coming from top management down. To do so means unemployment for the one who does.

Company is in a state of flux all the time with staffing levels. They sometimes hire when they simply need to use who they have, then are forced to do draconian cuts.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too many chiefs and not enough workers, especially in the IT and maufacturing sectors. Bring in new blood. Reliance on old employees will stalemate company. Share more bonuses with employees.

    I have been working at OMNOVA Solutions full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Strong middle management / director level / plant management. Dedicated, hard working employees.

    Cons

    New HR destroyed culture quickly: HR leadership lack business savvy, are untrustworthy and incompetent. It can be argued that HR has created a hostile work environment in recent months.

    Lack of accountability: The CEO does not hold the executive level accountable including himself.

    The company has survived only due to the efforts of the director level and lower. These employees receive no leadership from the executive level.

    Retirements of president, Jim Hohman, and CFO, Mike Hicks, eliminated any accountability or leadership at the executive level.

    No work life balance: The employees work 60 plus hour weeks and continue to be squeezed to do more with less resources. It is never ending.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Accountability needs to start from the type down. Try to reestablish the strong leadership and culture of accountability. Reevaluate leadership at executive level. The company was willing to risk an increase in turnover to move to Beechwood but a significant number of the 25% of employees that have left are your higher performers you should be trying to retain.

    Pros

    The pro is frequent cake.

    Cons

    Strange, arrogant coworkers. Cold environment and very weird culture. Nobody has fun or is especially nice. Open concept workplace is terrible, no privacy. Hire for roles they don't need.

    None, seems too far gone to change now.
