I have been working at Rosetta Resources

Pros

OK in Denver- Decent employees, some good technical people. Denver is the step child , if you like that kind of environment great

Cons

They pit the Denver office against the Houston office- this is not a sports team. Too much nepotism in their work force

Advice to ManagementAdvice

No structure to the ratings system. No structure to the career ladder- is their one. If you kiss ass- well it might work for you their

Doesn't Recommend
No opinion of CEO

Since this was written Rosetta no longer has a Denver office. Since I have been here I have not seen this behavior between the Houston office and our field offices.

Could have been a great company, but everything is driven from above

I have been working at Rosetta Resources full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Every other Friday is an off work day.
Friends and Family plan applies to compensation - if you are a friend it will work for you
Turnover is high which means if you have tough skin and can hold out you will eventually be promoted.
Actions speak more than words, it is clear after working here a couple of years how the system works, if you are not getting a promotion every two years you are not in the family plan. The pro is that you only need to work here two years to find out whether it is better to stay or go.

    Cons

A lot of compensation process and talk, but after working here, I understand that the talk is for show and the promotions are 100% retention and relationship based. Don't expect hard work to be rewarded.

Too many meetings and all decisions are made at the top and they forced downward. It is ready, fire aim at Rosetta. Decisions are made and then data and evidence is gathered to support the plan forward. If you try to recommend any improvement that is not "in the plan", you will be disciplined or shown the door

Your boss's raise and bonus gets padded with leftover money from what is not distributed to the staff. So, the management tends to find any excuse to downgrade your performance. What does not get into your pocket goes into his.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider basing performance on contributions and experience. There is nothing worse for the company then working for someone who does not know what he is doing.

I have been working at Rosetta Resources full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The Staff Level team is in general excellent, working together to bring value to the company.

    Cons

There are few bad apples, unfortunately, these bad apples are most often "promoted to their level of incompetence"

The company was recently split into an Eagleford and Permian division. Additional layers of management were added, and employees were promoted based on the "buddy" connection, not on ability. A number of talented employees left after the split, and the company is suffering for it, shown on our balance sheets and poor projections.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have a peer review system in place when promoting. Management should touch base with the staff level occasionally, and not just use mid-managers as intermediaries.
