I have been working at Sabre full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Good pay and benefits; nice campus although somewhat remote and can only get to it by car. Great cafeteria at Sabre HDQ in Southlake; lots of employee events although everyone's working overtime so hard to find time to take advantage of them. Good corporate citizen and our CEO is highly involved in representing and promoting the travel industry.

Cons

Not very good work life balance; overtime is a regular thing. They seem to hire people into positions who don't necessarily have the right background just to get a body in there. There alots of worldwide opportunities in a big company like Sabre; more senior employees seem to have more opportunity to work remotely from locations outside of the main Sabre offices; new employees are expected to work at the main office. There seem to be alot of overlapping responsibilities and duplication of effort - Sabre needs to get much better at it's processes and job roles and streamline their business which they have put some new things in place and are working on. Too many chiefs and project managers and not enough people to do the actual work.

    Pros

Relaxed work environment. Great place for recent graduates.

    Cons

Close ties to the airline. A lot of the leaders come from the airline industry.

I have been working at Sabre full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great products, great work atmosphere, mostly well-managed, clean and orderly work environment, salaries a bit above the average in this area (Montevideo UY), very positive and friendly workforce, good training programs, wonderful place to learn and acquire new skills. Sabre is still one of the best employers in the area, and working at Sabre is great for adding to the CV.

    Cons

Horrible location very far from where most educated middle-class people in the city live (Pocitos, Parque Rodó, etc.), far from the Centre, far from the University. There are major errors in communication with employees at critical times, failure to understand the local culture. Failure to make simple gestures to employees, like organizing transportation on May 1 and during bus strikes when people are worried about getting home from work and there are no or few buses.

Our culture is more friendly and polite than American culture in general and not openly critical, but this doesn't mean that people are satisfied with their situation. Many very bright and capable people left the company when a Sabre customer opened a call centre in a more central location. Many of those people were furious with Sabre for delaying an increase in salary while they negotiated with the wage council. Sabre lost many excellent employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize that the situation in the country has changed over the years, that pay levels in other companies are closer to Sabre. Recognize that it is an insult to pay new employees more than older ones, and that even though employees may not openly say what they are unhappy about, they still may be unhappy. Recognize that moving employees from one location to another and causing them to lose an extra two hours a day of personal time on a bus, or have to pay parking at the new building after buying a house near the other facility is cruel and not necessary. Recognize that hundreds of students sacrifice their university studies to work at Sabre, and that the location is so far from the university that it is almost impossible to work and study at the same time.
