It's a great university with a nice work environment at a beautiful location.

It's in a fairly small city, so access to non-academic things is limited.

I worked at Stanford University as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Many of my fellow coworkers were very supportive of one another. Workflow was constant, but with the ability to work from home it made projects very manageable. Lots of healthy and organic food options on campus so when I did work on-site it made for easy access to good food. Beautiful campus and surrounding trails.

    Cons

Having to pay for parking. I unfortunately had a bike stolen (the culprits cut the chain). Not a fault of Stanford's, but something to be careful with if you take public transportation and bike to work. If you work here I'd recommend talking to your manager to see about keeping your bike in your office, most of them are ok with this.
