I have been working at Thermo Fisher Scientific full-time for more than 8 years

Pros

Positives include-Competitve pay, good benefits and lots of working capital. In addition, because of the size of the company there is good possibility to move around within the company.

Cons

Upper management is very difficult to "break into" from the lower ranks in the company. While there are examples of promotions to VP, the typical mode is to hire from the outside. There's alot of talk about growing/developing employees, but the reality is not there.

    Pros

Thermo Fisher Scientific is a great company to work for if you are seeking a job function with a narrow job function. There is plenty of opportunity for high potential employees to hone their business skills and capabilities.

    Cons

This is not the company to work or if you like to wear a lot of hats. Also, the pyramid can get farily narrow past mid-management positions and it may be difficult to get promoted from within to a higher band position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With size comes the potential to lose perspective of what made the legacy businesses perspective. Keep a focus on the customer and understand what the true core competencies are of the repective businesses and divisions.

I worked at Thermo Fisher Scientific full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Thermo has very few pros. The company's culture has changed so much over the past years that it is unrecognizable. It does have very dedicated workers who are trying their best in a corporate culture gone awry.

    Cons

Thermo has changed over the years into a culture that eliminates individual contributions and encourages the corporate lockstep mentality. Every employee is looking over their shoulder, fearing reprisals. Don't let Human Resources fool you, they are not there to protect the employees, but rather to protect the company only. They will stretch the truth to the point it is unrecognizable, and put profit over everything.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize your employees are more valuable than your technology. Drop the idea of the 4 I's until you can follow them as well.
