I have been working at Yahoo as a contractor for more than a year

Pros

Great senior management team.
Great direction from my lead.
People are friendly.
The culture is addicting.

Cons

Hiring approval process takes time and we lose great engineers to competitors. It's getting much better now so I have confidence in the new process.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Yahoo full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Great people. Large scale engineering.

    Cons

Middle mgmt was weak. Lots of tech debt and too many teams caused friction and lack of innovation

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tech Debt is bringing down engineering at Y!. Phase out "old" systems that the original authors aren't willing to support. Move to Open Source solutions and contribute back. This will allow you to find engineers motivated to work for Y!.
