I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great company to have on CV, team wonderful and committed to providing top quality service to the company, lots of opportunities to work with staff located in different departments

    Cons

'Us and them' culture between employees and contractors, health & safety focus on the wrong areas spending hours investigating paper cuts instead of focussing on breaches of the core safety competencies and why people aren't reporting losses or near losses, where there is a bad boss or head of department there is a head in the sand attitude - one department head is notorious throughout the company and the turnover in their department is large yet no-one in a position to address the problems have chosen to do so. On the work life balance side the company talk the talk yet it is extremely difficult to even discuss flexible working requests.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Deal with the issues when they are brought to your attention. Properly consider flexible working requests

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Holistic benefits: Health, pension, childd care etc and excessive training: technical and soft skills in some cases

    Cons

Underpay compared with peers.Low quality of Management, Low or none career development having invested so much training in employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

time to change: There is not room for egos or being arrogance nowadays. Management still has the thinking about the best and first Oil & gas Major company which reality inside is other. Remember, Employees make a company

I worked at ExxonMobil full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Strong corporate culture but still retaining the 'close knit' feeling. Caring as long as it fits with policy!

    Cons

Controls, controls and more controls which slows down any decision making.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure you are visible to your team even if you are in another country.

    I worked at ExxonMobil

    Pros

Offered a great training budget which a lot employees didn't seem to take advantage of.

    Cons

Very difficult to work your way up without a degree. You either had to be willing to wait until you had 10 years experience with them or leave (both real outcomes).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on ability and delivery versus credentials alone.

    Pros

The culture, challening environment, talented people. There is always room for progress for people that work hard. I reconmend Exxon Mobil.

    Cons

I find it very hard to point out serious cons with working for Exxon Mobil. I know it is not a place for lazy people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They keep up the good work. They should continually look for talented, committed and ambitious people to shape the face of energy for the future.

Good salary for the work being done
Good opportunities to progress if in the right place with the right skills

    Cons

Limited progression once you have moved up the first couple of steps
Very limited opportunities to move on from the Manchester office

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open with the employees about what is going on and listen to feedback rather than just asking for it for lipservice.

I worked at ExxonMobil full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good pay, interesting work, intelligent colleagues, multicultural environment

    Cons

Admin staff not helpful, quality of leadership is inconsistent across different groups, and you have little to no say in your own career path

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Though the workforce is diverse, most managers and executives are white, Anglo men. That sends a negative signal to your worldwide personnel as to their prospects at the company and probably hurts performance at the top. Also, be more transparent with employees about your plans for their careers. You might learn something, or even make things better, through two-way dialogue, instead of just issuing top-down commands. Some managers seem to understand this, while many others (who are less respected as a result) take a more dictatorial approach.
