I worked at FAA as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great opportunities if you look for them. There are some young, passionate employees as well as many brilliant engineers. You can seek out these people.

    Cons

Lots of the agency's upper level employees are old and couldn't care less about what they are doing. These people tend to drag the others down.

I have been working at FAA

    Pros

Very fast paced and exciting place to work, I learned so much about the aviation field. I definitely appreciate the opportunity to be a part of something so special.

    Cons

I felt out of place being the only african american and the only women at my airport. Nothing against the field it self just wasn't for me.

I worked at FAA full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Extensive knowledge gained, amazing income potential, great benefits, and you get to have a rewarding career with great retirement options.

    Cons

You have to get through the academy with at least a 70. There is a lot of information to learn in a short period of time. I don't think the academy should be graded as you will get training on how your facility wants you to operate when you get there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow instructors at the academy to give help to the students who ask for it without repercussion.

I have been working at FAA full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits and job security of working for the Government are undeniable. It's a very rewarding profession. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to have this as my career.

    Cons

There is a lot of stress, not a lot of mobility, upper levels of management can be heavy handed. Congress controls the budget so you work with less resources than necessary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop interfering in things you know little to nothing about. The controllers are the stakeholders and know what works and what doesn't. Our involvement has proven to deliver equipment on time and at a reduced cost.
