I have been working at Florida International University part-time for less than a year

    Pros

It has a multicultural environment and I have a chance to meet students from all over the world. Besides, working with students and professors, I learn how to be a good engineer and also a researcher

    Cons

Engineering Center in FIU is not located in main campus. So, most of student have been deprived of using facilities in main campus.

    Cons

    Red tape
    Small budgets
    Too much bureaucracy

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let's try to improve the hiring process - it takes months!

I worked at Florida International University part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Working with students is extremely enjoyable. Many are very appreciative and thankful. Hours and schedule are flexible, and it's probably the best job a student can have.

    Cons

Typical "office politics", dealing with coworkers and supervisors. Thirty minute tutoring sessions are too short. Working with college students that don't know fractions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase tutoring sessions to 1 hour is my main suggestion.

I worked at Florida International University full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I spent over a year working there and I can honestly say that there are no pros to being employed by FIU Online. There are absolutely no redeeming qualities that I could point to. Every day is worse than the next. Unless you're desperate for a paycheck, you'd be much happier working somewhere else.

    Cons

There are too many cons to mention in this small section, but it begins with a total lack of leadership, strategy or competence. The entire management structure of FIU Online is incapable of making a correct decision, on any issue, ever. To offer a comparison, if the management of FIU Online ran a funeral parlor, nobody would die.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management would be to fire themselves if they really care about the quality of the education they're currently offering their online students.

I have been working at Florida International University

    Pros

Benefits, Tuition reimbursement, flexible work hours for students, sometimes great bosses and coworkers depending on your department. Great for a first job after graduating.

    Cons

giant bureaucracy that doesn't reward hard work. Organizational structure reduces accountability and fosters a "not my job" attitude.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Salary and promotion should be based on performance, not seniority or pay-scales.
This is demotivating and encourages people to only work hard enough to keep their jobs.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Florida International University part-time

    Pros

Nice relaxed environment, supportive colleagues. GA position came with a tuition waiver so this helped tremendously in making college affordable. Plus, gained experience in my chosen field.

    Cons

Nothing really remarkable springs to mind. Perhaps student offices could be upgraded with faster computer, etc. and generally more modern office equipment.
