I have worked for them for close to 11 years. They are very focused on the bottom line, productivity and not patients.

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    It is a stable company.
The company has accommodated me for FT, PT and PRN at various times when I needed to change my availability.

    Cons

No $$ promotions, pay cuts....but we won't cut your job, 6 month request for any time off. Working all holidays.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get the focus off the bottomline.
Listen to the therapist, they were trained to do what they do.
Appreciate your employees and show them that you do.

I worked at Genesis HealthCare full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The job seemed hopeful and swemingly professional.I took pride in my work and was well liked by the residents. They offered benefits and a steady 40 hour work week

    Cons

After a possitive quarterly evaluation I was fired for "Workplace violence" by the daughter of a worker that was written up for cussing me out days before. A month prior I was targeted by the chef who "found" things to write me (five times in two weeks) up and fast track my dismissal I filed a complaint with the regional manager and the write ups were deemed unfounded. The rumors were that I was being targeted by "the click". When I was told I was being fired they said it was because the girl felt "threatened" by me I asked if there's was no violence or cursing or any physical contact by me (I actually liked working with her) if I could see the accusations that were cited for my dismissal they sited "Hippa law" as why they couldn't explain how or what specifically I did to get such a harsh reason for getting fired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take ethics classes. Upper management: question fishy stories that contridict the actual worker history and behavior.

I worked at Genesis HealthCare full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Met many great co-workers along the way. There is usually the option of transferring to other buildings.

    Cons

Unfortunately, the honeymoon phase of working for Genesis wore off eventually. Overall, I found that the environment really depends on which specific building you work in. You may be a part of a team in which everyone is friendly, helpful, even socializes outside of work, or you end up working in a building where folks are uptight. I agree with other reviewers who mentioned a revolving door of staff. I had several, and I mean SEVERAL, different managers as an employee with Genesis. Seems they just can't hang onto managers for more than a year or so.
My biggest disappointment came during my last 2 years working for Genesis. It seemed that more and more was being expected of us as employees, but that Genesis was very unwilling to budge re: hourly rate or any other incentives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think that the "clique culture" needs to be addressed in many buildings. In the last building I worked in, it was as if there was a Rehab Illuminati that I was not part of. Only employees who were willing to drink the Kool-aid, so to speak, were in. On two particular occasions, I recall hearing information from my co-workers that I had shared with my manager in confidence. It was extremely disappointing to discover that my superior couldn't be trusted not to share information with her minions.

    Pros

Large therapy team. Lots of online resources to draw on. Many buildings in the USA. Ability to transfer all over. Promotes therapists to management

    Cons

No raises currently. Very high productivity standards in my building. Lots of upper management has no idea how to provide quality therapy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lower productivity standards leads to better customer service.

    Pros

Good pay rate, learn a lot

    Cons

Bad management, vacation and benifits suck

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care about your employes, they are not as replaceable as you think. Pay is good for a healthcare company, but the benifits are lacking and expensive. Education reimbusement program closed. Management treat emplyees like a commodity, no respect. Vacation 2 weeks a year for the first 5 years, good luck trying to take any, you have to request vacation in summer 6-8months in advance.
