Checker (Current Employee)
San Antonio, TX (US)

I have been working at H E B part-time for more than 3 years

ProsFlexible scheduling. Opportunity to move up within company.

ConsSome lower level managers can be hard to deal with. Those that try to make a name for themselves tend to be overbearing on their sub-ordinates.

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote those who are driven to management instead of those who 'need' the job (30's - 40's mothers).

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Department Manager (Current Employee)
Houston, TX (US)

I have been working at H E B full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGood company to move up in ranks. If you're dedicated you can move up and fast.

ConsThe company stands behind being a "people person business" but some of the people they hire are no were close to it. It's worse when there your boss. It's a hit or miss on this.

Advice to Senior ManagementReview your store leaders more often and more in detail.

Good Company

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Austin, TX (US)

I have been working at H E B full-time for more than a year

ProsThis is a very good company that really does care about their employees (partners) and the area/community. They offer an excellent training program for those interested in moving into management. They begin with great scholarships for students & other opportunities to move up.

Consit's hard to break though some of the bias and favoritism in this company & there were limited number of females in management. They are little too old school in their philosophies, even for the grocery business.

Great company

Pharmacy Intern (Current Employee)
Austin, TX (US)

I have been working at H E B as an intern for less than a year

ProsEveryone is very friendly. Management is always doing something nice for the staff (cook-outs, gift cards, etc). Free item about once a week to try out and 10% HEB brand products.

ConsThe only locations in the US are in Texas, so there is little opportunity to branch out.

One of the best stores to work

Customer Service Assistant (Current Employee)
McAllen, TX (US)

I have been working at H E B part-time for more than a year

ProsWork very well with students and their school schedules, lots of opportunities to move up, alot of opportunities to help in your community Easy to make friends when everyone is about the same age. Competitive pay

Conssome managers promote the pretty girls faster than the guys that have worked longer and harder than them. Too many rules set on teenagers for a relatively simple job as bagging groceries and pushing carts. The rules being pushed are sometimes unfair and unnecessary and make the job harder and less enojoyable.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop making up rules in the hope to increase productivity when everything is being done amazingly efficient already. The only thing that's happens when you take things away that shouldnt be taken away from hard working teenagers is less productivity.
