London, England

Current Employee – been working at Hilton Worldwide full-time for more than 8 years

ProsLots of opportunities for long term career growth and geographic relocation. Healthy track record of promoting from within. Horizontal organization (i.e. great access to top executives).

ConsSome functions not compensated as well as others. Incompetent HR department makes promotions, salary increases a real pain to execute and creates a real battle to retain talent when they are presented with other offers.

Advice to Senior ManagementThink more long term than short term.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Portsmouth, South East England, England

Former Employee – worked at Hilton Worldwide part-time for more than a year

Pros- Looks good on your CV

Cons- Lazy and imcompetent managers (up to head of department level).
- HR promotes suck ups who have ticked boxes rather than experienced and capable staff.
- Long shifts, poor work/life balance
- Low pay and tips that dont find their way to your payslip.
- Management do not care about their staff, only the numbers and are very lazy.
- Management cant seem to write a rota more than one day in advance (is available on Thursday, starts the next day) which makes planning the rest of your life next to impossible.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend some time on the floor and listen to your staff.
Let your staff decide what changes need to be made to improve service, there are some very good staff members with good ideas who are currently not being allowed to help by department management.

Current Employee – been working at Hilton Worldwide full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat team spirit and you receive encouragement and support to evolve in your role.
A chance to move in between departments and be cross-trained.

ConsUsually as a rule across the company, minimum salary with a very anaemic service charge added to it.
Not a great choice of work if you are cannot comply with the highest level of customer service you can offer!

Advice to Senior ManagementShould give a good thought to how to find a remedy for work/life imbalances! The roles are often very demanding, cuts are tough and the employees feel like they receive nothing in return of their efforts.

ProsAmazing job position really well paid to be in the hilton company.

ConsNo customer relations.
Looks like just ass-licker goes up instead of experienced people

Advice to Senior ManagementMy managers are ok.this message is for the manager over my managers.

Glasgow, Scotland

Former Employee – worked at Hilton Worldwide

ProsGreat people, lots of opportunuties to learn and free (or very cheap) stays at many great hotels around the globe.

ConsI was hired to do a customer service job and the whole selection process was towards finding service-oriented people. After a few months, we all had to start selling as well, I hated it because I wouldn't even have applied to a job that included sales.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more transparent, small talk in the workplace can be poisonous.

ProsUK's second largest hotel so experience wise you will be on positive side. Also with cultural diversity you can experience here.

ConsVery limited future growth, less salary, no particular recognition, management more concerns about money then customer or people. Nothing Special

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you keep doing it what you are doing it now then very soon you will loose business so better understand customer needs and staff needs.

Former Employee – worked at Hilton Worldwide

ProsTo make my resume looks good is probably the only reason I could think of after I left there. Thought the Hilton brand contained good reputation and high standard though.

Cons1. Unordinary long working time without reasonable payment
2. Unbalanced work/life management, often get call back on off-work days
3. Security issues, employees' lockers been stolen many times
4. Reward system is not clear and fair, hard to attract employees to involve

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease treat your employees more soft, but not as capitals. I was assigned to help 2 different departments other than my own job in a single day, for uncountable times. I had to leave the job so I won't get burn out.
Also, telling more than 4 employees in the same period individualy that they will be promoted to the same ONE position is not a smart idea for mantain the good team work.
