Great client experiences, Professional and Fun colleagues, but a terrible beureaucratic machine with poor ongoing reward

Senior Consultant (Current Employee)

I have been working at IBM full-time for more than 3 years

ProsExcellent client projects
Great people
Amazing reputation

ConsAwful clunky systems and processes
Recognition and reward practices are based demonstrating actively an input above and beyond your colleagues....less about actual client feedback
Poor offices

Good placement year

Intern (Former Employee)
London, England

I worked at IBM as an intern for more than a year

ProsWorking for a top blue chip adds value to your CV.
Globally diverse and integrated teams.
The experience around you varies enormously from interns to specialists that were there 30 years ago.
Good social experiences.
Very supportive of interns.
Some very great supportive people.
A lot of courses available.
Good training of interns, for skill development.
Also there are schemes to get women into technology. A lot of events for development and guest speakers.

ConsThey do not offer a direct route to the grad scheme for their interns.
Some interns literally do nothing. However majority, and especially in my time, worked long hours, with no pay and it is expected of you.
Sometimes there is favouritism, by the development managers, and sometimes the work you do goes unnoticed if you are not highly connected with the development managers.

Advice to Senior ManagementFairer view of reviewing the interns.

Perhaps be less strict with applications and flexible.
Overall I would definitely work there again.

Used to be a great company to work for but not any longer, sadly.

Sales Account Manager (Former Employee)
London, England

I worked at IBM full-time for more than 5 years

ProsYou get to work with a lot of talented people, with opportunity to develop and grow professionally. Opportunity to diversify if you invest your time making the right contacts.

ConsMany of those talented people have left and not replaced, leaving a top heavy management structure. Moral in the hardware side of the business is at rock bottom and looks like it's going to get worse before it gets better.

Advice to Senior ManagementValue your people in actions as well as words.

Disappointing

Senior Consultant (Former Employee)

I worked at IBM full-time for more than 5 years

ProsOpportunity to travels and if in the right division of GBS, ability to work in multiple industries

Consdouble standards, no work/life balance, very fashionable, little support in the field, lots of promises on career opp, little if none delivered, pretended to be a meritocracy for promotion but was in fact completely patronage based.

Advice to Senior Managementstop over-promising to employees and customers, and start actually delivering!
